| Sensitize lower judiciary: PM | | |
New Delhi, Aug 19 Observing that there was "growing concern" over "lack" of probity in some sections of judiciary, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the lower courts "must be sensitized" for speedy justice where most of the citizens come in contact with judiciary.
Emphasising that it was incumbent on any healthy institution to periodically "reflect" on its role, expectation from it and scope for improvement, he said "it will make our justice delivery system more sensitive to the need of the poorest of our people. Especially those who are most discriminated in our society".
Addressing a conference of All India Inter-departmental Cooperation Dialogue and Meeting on Social Justice here, he said the "greatest challenge" for speedy justice was at the bottom of the pyramid where most of the citizens come in contact of judiciary.
"The lower courts, the district courts, the courts that deal with petty offences, these are the ones that must be sensitized most to the concerns we are dealing with today. They are at the cutting edge of our governance," he said Referring to complaints of delay and backlog of cases, the Prime Minister said "there is growing concern about probity -- or the lack of it -- in some section of judiciary".
He said "its is incumbent upon any healthy institution to continue to refelect from time to time its role, on expectations from it and the scope of improvement". |
