Jora inaugurates computerized billing centre
Mangat hails installation of CBCs as step towards e-governance

Minister for Power, Nawang Rigzin Jora today inaugurated a computerized electricity billing centre here at Electric Maintenance M& RE Sub-Division-II Janipur, Jammu. Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma was also present on the occasion.
The computerized billing centre, third to be commissioned in Jammu, has been set up at an estimated cost of Rs 33 lakh in a scheduled period of three months. The centre developed by National Informatics Centre J&K State Centre, will provide single roof facility for Sub-division-II Janipur and can manage 175 ledgers containing about 30,000 installations at one counter installed under the pilot project of JKR MCE the bill delivery will be managed by in house manpower, besides other facilities like centralized monitoring of daily collection, on-line query and easy management, automatic data transfer from all Sub-Divisions to Divisions makes it a user friendly system.
Stating the project as a milestone in the history of Power Development Department, Jora said that the computerized billing centre will improve overall work culture, efficiency and enhance revenue realization. He said that the consumers can now seek their electricity bills through internet with full details of the number of energy units consumed, posting of bill payment viz domestic, commercial and industrial which was a distant dream in the past. He informed that this will bring a complete transparency in functioning of the department and remove inconvenience to the consumers. This step will automatically increase our revenue realization and encourage the people to regularize their illegal connections.
The payment can be made through multi-point bank branches and even by ATM. He said that the consumers can get their bill through internet with proper information about each parameter and facility for early detection and disposal of revenue errors.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangat Ram Sharma dwelt upon the yearly loss of Rs 13,300 crore to the state’s exchequer due to purchase of power from other states. He elaborated that to give thrust to power generation in the state, several new mini and micro hydro-electricity projects are being developed in collaboration with private players in the field. Sharma said that due to personal intervention by Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh have agreed to gave Dul Hasti Electricity Project to the state and a committee to oversee the modalities have been constituted. He informed that work on Sawalakot and Baghliar Hydro-Electricity Projects are in full swing and would be commissioned soon, after which the state will face no shortage of power and would be in a position to sell electricity to other states.
