Re-construction of Water Supply Scheme Sitlee intake II will be completed by end of January this year which will yield additional 70 lakh gallons of drinking water from Sitlee Water Supply project to 1.40 crore gallon per day. This would facilitate regular drinking water supply for one and a half hour daily to the people of New Plots, Sarwal, Subash Nagar, Rehari, Janipur, Dogra Hall, Karan Nagar and Old Jammu city. Sitlee intake was extensively damaged due to flash floods last year. In addition to this, work of 70 lakh gallon per day Sitlee intake well III would also be taken in hand shortly with completion deadline on 31st March next year to enhance the availability of drinking water to 2.10 crore gallons per day.
This was revealed during the inspection of the Sitlee water supply scheme by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mohd Dilawar Mir after reviewing the status of various drinking water supply schemes in Jammu division at a high level meeting of engineers at Jammu today.
Principal Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, . A. K. Angurana, Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu . V. K. Goswami and senior engineers accompanied the Minister.
The Minister was informed that as a short-term measure to augment drinking water supply in Jammu city, another 15 lakh gallon per day intake well will be commissioned within 15 days which will enable the PHE department to provide regular water supply to the people for 1.15 hours against 45 minutes daily at present.
The Minister also inspected the 10 lakh gallon per day intake works of filtration plant at Boria and directed the engineers to complete it within 20 days. This would augment drinking water supply in Bhathandi, Sainik Colony, Sunjwan, Narwal and Channi-Himmat areas of Jammu city.
Earlier while chairing the review meeting of PHE department, . Dilawar enjoined upon the engineers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) to strive hard to come up to the expectations of the people. He said drinking water being the essential requirement, people need to be taken into full confidence, for which engineers shall have to prove their presence on the ground and be responsive to their problems.
