Sanju hits unbeaten ton in Sahara’s 94-run win

An unbeaten 118 runs coming off mere 78 deliveries studded with three sixes and 15 hits to the fence by Sanju today guided Sahara Cricket Club (SCC) to a comfortable 94 runs victory over Youngster Cricket Club (YCC) in the Satish Sharma memorial under-19 cricket tournament being played at Parade ground, here.
It was Sanju’s brilliant innings that guided SCC to a competitive total of 212 runs for the loss of four wickets in stipulated 25 overs. In reply, YCC could not chase the total and bowled out for a partly total of 118 runs in 18.1 overs.
Besides Sanju, Deepak also played fine innings of 33-ball 33 runs including five fours. From YCC, Sumit, Surinder and Siddarth shared one wicket each.
Batting second, Young Star Club was never in winning position. Except for Sumit, who contributed 42 runs with the help of one six and four boundaries, no other batsman could faced the Sahara bowlers with confidence. Danish was the other batsman who scored in double figure with 10 runs in his account. Extras added 38 runs to the total.
Sanju, who earlier hit the first century of the tournament, was instrumental in early dismissal of YCC innings. He took three wickets while Adarsh and Rubal shared two wickets each.
Sanju was later declared man of the match for his all-round performance. Shiv Kumar, DySP was special guest in this match.
In the second match of the day, Khalsa Cricket Club (KCC) outplayed Star Cricket Club by 57 runs to advance into the second round. Batting first, KCC set a target of 176 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 25 overs, which, in reply, Star Club could not chase and lost all their wickets for 119 runs in 22.2 overs.
Pumma, who was later adjudged man of the match scored highest 52 (off 29 ball, 1x6, 8x4) for KCC. The man of the match trophy was given away to Pumma by Mubassir Lattifi, SP Operations, who was special guest in this match.
Today’s matches were officiated by Pappu Dogra and Santa Singh.
