| Anti-US protest in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 5 Groups of Muslims, including children, staged anti-US demonstration in Jammu on Friday demanding change of name of a store 'Apple Mecca' claiming that since its glass cube structure resembles Kaba it hurst the sentiments of the community members. The community members were agitated as the store serves beverages and alcohol and claimed it is unislamic and cannot be tolerated. Shouting slogans the Muslims, came out of the local mosque after Friday prayers, demanded demolition of the building housing the alcohol shop. Hilal Began activist leading the protest demonstration said "the Americans have committed a sacrilege and our religious sentiments have been hurt." Slogan shouting demonstrators demanded not only the demolition of the glass cube almost identical to Kaba but change in the name of the store from Apples Mecca. Lathi and gun wielding policemen were rushed to the spot to ensure that the demonstrators did not kick up any law and order problem. However, after staging the demonstration the protesters dispersed peacefully. |
