| Two day capacity building workshop held | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 5 Department of Sociology of University of Jammu (JU) in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) organized a two day national level workshop on capacity building and skill upgradation for young sociologist here at Rajinder Singh Auditorium of JU today. This workshop is 2nd in series of workshops organized by Indian Sociological Society in which social scientists will interact and express their ideas with the panel experts. The workshop is organized to provide platform and valuable knowledge for the future of aspiring social scientists. Prof B P S Seghal, Dean Academic Affairs, JU was the Chief Guest whereas G Rajasekaran, director RGNIYD was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Prof B P S Seghal in his presidential address appreciated the efforts of the university department and said that the department is not too, old but it has achieved many feathers in its cap by organizing such programmes at state and national levels. Commenting over the reservation for the upliftment of downtrodden classes Seghal said that in the beginning it was believed that almost 15 years will be sufficient to eradicate the gap between higher and downtrodden classes but still after 60 years of independence that gap still exists. He said that it is here these social scientists have to play their role for constructing complete society without many disparities. He added that today India has the maximum number of young population and to channelize this force social scientists has to work. G Rajasekaran in his address said that scholars should utilize this opportunity to gain maximum knowledge from the panel experts which can be of immense help in their field work. Those who were present on the occasion include P K B Nair, Prof U B Bhoite, Radha Krishan Nair and others. |
