| Mingling religion with politics is alien to Hindus, but… | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 6 Describing the situation in Kashmir highly volatile and grim, with no break through over settlement of Kashmir dispute in sight, the Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz umer Farooq, announced at a Friday prayer meeting from Hazratbal mosque in Srinagar that the last Friday of Ramzan month, falling on October 12 will be observed as Kashmir Day. It is characteristic of separatist politician in Kashmir as well as other sectarian Muslim politicians in the country and so with sectarian Sikh leaders to mingle politics with religion by making political announcements from the mosques and gurudwaras respectively. Still another case of taking recourse to religion is the hardcore Islamic fundamentalist and secessionist Kashmiri leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani asking the Chief Islamic Cleric of Kashmir to issue "Fatwa" against the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for advising the Muslims of Kashmir to follow Gandhi's path of non violence, truth and human love and thus placing Gandhi ji at a higher pedestal than Prophet Mohammad, whose teachings alone are guiding principles for Muslims world over. Dubbing the Muslim leaders who preach secularism to Kashmiri Muslims as anti Islamic, Geelani reiterated his earlier outburst that Gandhi's teachings have no relevance in Kashmir, where the teachings of the Prophet and Islamic values alone hold good. In fact in making comparison between Gandhi ji, who himself was a great votary of Prophet Mohammad and held him in high esteem and described his preaching as valuable for human beings as of Ram and Krishan, with Prophet Mohammad Sayeed Geelani has himself committed an act of blasphemy by comparing a human being like Gandhi with the Prophet Mohammad, who was role model for Gandhi ji. But what is worrying more is the Hindus, who boast to be liberal and tolerant in matters of religious faith, with never any edict issued against even the atheists or any Hindu who even publicly criticizes Ram and Krishan, for their certain actions or those who denounce idol worship, are lately emulating the followers of some other religions in mingling religion with politics. In this regard some pro Hindu organizations like Vishav Hindu Parishad, Ram Setu Raksha Smiti and BJP are using the name of Ram to serve their political agenda and make a bid to come back to power in the country or at least to regain their lost base, by exploiting the name of Ram, in the background of controversy triggered over historicity of Ram and Ram Setu. The coming Hindu festival days, commencing from Navratras and ending pass Diwali or sought to be availed of in making the entire atmosphere in the country rendered with Ram naam, emphasizing the greatness of Ram and his unique place in the minds of Indians, mainly Hindus and even Sikhs. In the process Gandhi ji's reverence for Ram and his devotional songs in praise of Ram recited in Prathana Sabhas and the lost words uttered by Gandhi ji before his death "Hey Ram" have come handy to the BJP to beat the Congress and all those who put question mark on the historicity of Ram. In this regard BJP President Rajnath Singh's remarks that if Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi cannot denounce those who question the existence of Ram and Ram Setu, they should remove sir name Gandhi after them, since Gandhi was an ardent worshiper of Ram, is an example. These Hindu organizations are learnt to have chalked out a program of reaping political harvest by rendering the atmosphere in the nook and corner of the country "Ram may" i.e. full of to praise of Ram and recitation of his name, emphasizing his universality and greatness, through holding Ram Lilas, on a much larger scale this year as well as celebrating Ram Navmi and Dusshera on a grander scale, which fall on October 20 and 21 respectively, as also Diwali, which symbolizes Bhagwan Ram's returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of "Vanvas". The Hindu organizations have also on their sleeves to hold Ram Lilas and other programs connected with Ram, during these days, in Southern states, including Tamil Nadu, where holding of such occasions is rare, to facilitate polarization in the name of Ram in that state. It is also calculated that holding of religious programs associated with Ram in Tamil Nadu will lead to back lash in that state and the BJP would be trigger happy to cash on the same in the rest of the country, particularly in Northern, Eastern and Western States, where people's sentiments are highly attached with Bhagwan Ram. Through this they would put the Congress in wrong or in defensive. |
