| Security grid being strengthened around state in view of ensuing festival season | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 6 Festival season is just round the corner and the security forces are on their toes preparing themselves to maintain round the clock strict vigil to ward off any possible threat from militants across the state. Keeping this long festive season in mind the existing security apparatus is being reviewed to further strengthen the grid for better management of security deployment and plug the loopholes,if any to ensure that festive season passed off peacefully. The up gradation is necessitated in view of the ensuing festivals of Navratra,Eid-ul-Fitr,Dussera and Diwali,official sources said referring to fresh intelligence inputs. These festivals will fall between October 11 and November 9.During this period the move offices will close in Srinagar and open in Jammu. Police authorities said that during the festival season additional police and paramilitary companies would be deployed in Srinagar and Jammu cities and other towns.They said that the troops have been requested to stand by for meeting any eventuality. Police sources stated that on the basis of intelligence inputs the Army authorities have already directed the troops guarding the LOC to remain on the alert for foiling infiltration bids as more than 4,000 trained militants had been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara,Uri,Gulmarg,Poonch and Rajouri. Police said that Quick reaction Teams(QRT) would be kept eady not only in Srinagar and Jammu cities but in other sensitive belts of the state.It said that already instructions have been sent to those manning various nakas in the state to carry out detailed checking of buses,cars and frisking of passengers to prevent movement of militants and smuggling of weapons and explosives from one area to the other. Instructions have gone to the security forces to intensify counter insurgency operations in different parts of the state so that militants were on the run and unable to be on the offensive.Security forces have also been advised to keep strict vigil on inter-district routes and the routes that link far-off places with towns so as to check the movement of militants who may start coming down from the upper reaches to inhabited villages. |
