Jammu | Oct 6
While announcing holding of October 22, when the Pakistani tribals invaded Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, as a black day in protest against continued step motherly treatment meted out to refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir the SOS international, a premier organization of the displaced people, has demanded that Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, should spell out the the Government’s plan on rehabilitating these refugees.
This was announced by chairman of the SOS,Rajiv Chuni,at a press conference here today. Chuni said that the coalition Government had done nothing during the last five years and even the promises made by not only the chief Minister but other cabinet ministers had remained unfulfilled. He said a day before the All Parties meeting held on May 11 the Chief Minister had discussed the refguee problems with “us” in detail and assured the SOS leaders that the matter will be discussed at the meeting. He lamented that except for referring the issue to a committee the matter was not discussed at all at the all parties meeting.
He said that during the last four decades “we have been staging protest demonstrations, including carrying out a march to the border in order to mount pressure on the successive state and central Governments for granting justice to the POK refugees. He said that “our struggle has not been taken note of by the successive Government.”
Rajiv Chuni and his association colleagues, including Dr Gurmeet Singh, Dr Suchwant Singh and J.S.Mangal said that the Chief Minister had been encouraged by the Kashmir centric communist leader, M.Y.Tarigami, to wind up the committee which had been assigned the task of taking a decision on the rehabilitation of the POK refugees.
The SOS leaders said that “we have decided not to be taken in by the sweet promises of the ruling coalition partners during the next Assembly poll.” They said that since the POK refugees could tilt the scale of contesting candidates in several constituencies in the Jammu region the Congress and other parties will use every trick to woo “refugees voters.”
The refugees leaders urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to find time in reviewing the plight of POK refguees settled in Jammu because since the last 60 years they have been forced to lead a miserable life. The declared that “our struggle for justice will continue whatever may be the odds.”
