| Colleges start preparations as inter-college cricket begins on Oct 15 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 6 The city colleges have started their preparations or the prestigious event of the annual inter-college competitions, the cricket tournament starting from October 15 at the University of Jammu grounds here under the banner of Department of Physical Education. While the last year’s runners up, GGM Science College has already initiated the selection process and the trials are on for the last three days, the defending champion, the sports wing of Government MAM College has also circulated the notice inviting the interested players for selections. “Since the college is fielding its two teams from morning and evening wings in the inter-college cricket tournament and it requires a lot of time to pick-up of the squads, so we have started preparations in advance,” said Physical Training Instructor (PTI) of GGM Science College, Dr Vinod Bakshi. He informed that for the last three days the trials are on and it will take the selection committee a couple of days more to finalise the final 16-member squad. Meanwhile, as compare to previous year, this time the Department of Physical Education has received more entries. “This this, the number of participating team has reached 22, an addition of two teams from the last year’s entries, said Assistant Director Physical Education, University of Jammu, Dr Sonam Angchuk. As the schedule indicates, the competition spread over three weeks will conclude with the holding of final on November 8. In the initial rounds, it will be a 40-overs aside game with finalists of the last year as also some other teams getting bye in the first round of the competitions starting from October 15. |
