| Left alone, Qazi fires salvo | | Through fresh letter CM asked to accept resignation | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 6 Feeling alone in the recent bout of controversy revolving around him and the coalition relations, the embittered Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal today "yet again resigned" resigned from the government through a fresh letter to the Chief Minister. "Qazi had to write this fresh letter to the Chief Minister as he found his party leaving in the isolation", said a source close to the Minister who tendered his resignation. This development came hours after PDP president Mehbooba Mufti indicated that her party will have to work on close relations with the Congress. In his letter to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was made available to the EARLY TIMES, Qazi said, "I had expected you to relieve me of my responsibilities immediately on receipt of my resignation in view of the very clear and serious reasons, I had furnished. But, unfortunately you have preferred silence over the matter." The latter drafted by a top bureaucrat in consultations with a Srinagar based journalist, further said, "meanwhile many actions have taken by you which have further brought into focus the reasons for my stepping down from your cabinet, he said adding these actions have only added to strains on the spirit of coalition instead of serving to undo the wrongs that I had protested". Seeking to hit at the Chief Minister for his decision to first withdraw his Forest portfolio and later charging another junior Minister with the responsibilities of Housing and Urban Development Department, Qazi said, "the actions taken by you and the manner in which issues were handled could subvert the very purpose and objectives of the coalition". He added, "I feel, it puts a big question mark on the very basis of the coming together of our parties for achieving the grand dreams of peace, dignity and development shared by my leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said adding, " In such circumstances, it would be against my conscience to continue in the state cabinet." Qazi Afzal further said that he had not atended to the duties as minister since he sent his resignation to chief minister on September 4, last and he treats himself as releived of the responsibilites and hope that CM would fulfill the obligation of aqcceptance of his resignation. |
