| PDP climbs down, says Congress naturally | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 6 With Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad appearing in no mood to concede to the pressure which the coalition partners mounted on him following withdrawal of Forest portfolio from Qazi Mohammad Afzal, the Peoples Democratic Party today made an apparent climb down from its offensively tough stand. After over a month of Azad and Congress bashing and threats of pulling out of the government, the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today said that the present coalition is not only power sharing agreement but has been formulated with a broader vision in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba's statement indicates that this time Congress high command has not obliged the PDP on its whims. Mehbooba Mufti today said in Srinagar that the alliance between Congress and PDP is not mere power sharing agreement but in the backdrop of sensitive situation in Kashmir it was formulated with a broader vision to solicit the support at national level to solve the Kashmir problem. It may be mentioned here that following stripping off the Forest portfolio of Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Mehbooba had accused the Chief Minister of violating the principles of coalition and asked her party cadres to gear up for the snap polls. Speaking to her party functionaries, Mehbboba today said that a solution to Kashmir problem is impossible unless there is support, cooperation and goodwill at national level. She added that coalition government changed the perception and the situation eased to greater extent since it took over the reigns in the State. She added that for the first time in history of Jammu and Kashmir , it was the state government that has led the peace process. Mufti remarked that many steps were taken by the coalition government in past five years vis-à-vis Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) and India-Pakistan dialogue and the credit goes to the best chemistry between the regional forces, which represent the aspirations of general masses at state level, and the national forces in the center. She, however, added that as and when this component is missing, the alliance will loose its relevance. Stressing on the need to work for the party promotion she added that the workers should work with utmost sincerity and dedication so that the people feel the difference. |
