| Submit DGCA approved flying maps | | Notices issued to chopper operators | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 7 Taking serious note of the increasing level of noise pollution in Katra township and changes affected in the DGCA prescribed route by private helicopter service operators the state government has issued notices to two operators- Deccan Aviation and Himalayan Heli Services to submit their approved flying maps of the prescribed route and permissions failing which action will be initiated against them. Both the service operators are running helicopter services between Katra base camp and Sanjhi Chhat and are vying with each other to other to attract more pilgrim traffic. The service operators have already cut their fare rates to attract more rush during the festival season but it seems their desire to cut on the operational cost and earn more profit may land them in trouble. Official sources said,” the notices VIDE LETTER NO 1535-37/SQ/19-09-2007 were issued by the senior district authorities to both the helicopter service operators after it was pointed out by senior officials in one of the security review meetings Chaired by divisional commissioner that helicopter operators were not flying on the prescribed route approved by the DGCA and is flouting the DGCA guidelines risking lives of pilgrims on board and Katra residents. “We have asked them to furnish details of requisite permissions after it was pointed out during the security review meeting chaired by Divisional commissioner in July 2007 that Katra township is witnessing lot of noise pollution due to helicopter services operating on different route inviolation of the guidelines. It may be mentioned that helicopter services on the route are attracting huge pilgrim traffic and offering lucrative packages to lure more pilgrims is part of the strategy adopted by the operators. Deccan Aviation is running the chopper service between Katra and Sanjhi Chhat since October 2002 and it recently received a jolt when another service operator Himlalayan heli services entered the arena by cutting down cost on the route. |
