| Militant, soldier killed in encounter | | | Early Times Reporter

An unidentified militant and a solider were killed and two others jawans wounded in a fierce encounter at Kangan area of Ganderbal district
Giving details of the encounter an official spokesman said that an operation was launched by Ganderbal Police and 24 RR at Barwal Thune on receiving a specific information regarding presence of militants in the area.
When the troops were zeroing in the militants' hideout they were fired upon by a hiding militant leaving three soldiers injured, sources said adding, one of the injured solider later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The troops returned the fire leading to a brief encounter, they said. In the ensuing encounter on militant was killed.
The identification of the slain militant could not be ascertained immediately. Unofficial reports said that at least three militants were hiding in the house when troops cordoned it. However, two of them managed to escape from the spot. |
