| NMC, TUC demand release of DA before Idd festival | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 7 Urging the Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, to expedite formalities for issuing necessary orders with regard to release of DA installment to the state government employees and the pensioners before Idd-ul-Fir, President National Mazdoor Conference Subash Shastri said that the employees are faced with soaring prices, especially those of the essential commodities. Addressing meeting of the NMC activists here today, Shastri said that several other states have already announced the DA due from July 1 last and urged the Chief Minister to announce the same before the ensuing festivals. He also demanded release of pending salary to the workers of the Public Sector Undertakings, besides ordering enhancement in daily wages to Rs.100 per month from Rs.70 at present. In the meantime, Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union Congress has hailed the discussion of the Government on release of 6 per cent DA and payment of DA to PSU employees in lieu of COLA, which is currently under active consideration of the Finance Department. Addressing meeting of JKTUC here today, Sewa Ram Sharma President hoped that the government will stick to payment of DA to PSU employees, as was announced by the Minister for Health and Medical Education and Industries Minister during a rally here recently. The meeting also discussed the long pending demands of PSU workers and impressed upon the government to address these on priority to check the growing unrest among the workers. The issues discussed included regularization of daily wagers of PSUs and government departments, SRTC drivers working on consolidated wages, nursing orderlies and technicians engaged on contractual basis, besides, revival of sick PSUs on the pattern of Central government undertakings.. The meeting expressed optimism that all these demands would be addressed to by the government to give some respite to the suffering workers. |
