| Katra braces up for Indo-Pak Dangal | | | Early Times Reporter Katra | Oct 7 With administration already gearing up for the 12th Navratra Festival at the holy town of Katra, the countdown for the prestigious Indo-Pak dangal at the Vivekanand Sports Stadium has also started. The wrestling extravaganza “Mission Dosti” would be held on October 14. The Dangal is being organized by the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Sports Foundation and Indian Style Wrestling Association of India. “This time around nine wrestlers from Pakistan are going to participate, four more from previous Dangal,” said Shiv Kumar Sharma, organizing secretary and president of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. He added that the winner of top (Main Dangal) bout will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000 in addition to a traditional glittering Gurj. A host of prominent Indian wrestlers from neighbouring states, who have to their credit national and international titles, would also vie for the top honours. “Wrestlers representing Pakistan are Abdul Majeed, Mohd Bashir, Mohd Hamid, Ali Khan, Abdul Rehman, Mohd Shahid, Pappu, Mohd Shariq, M M Tariq and Mohd Imran,” said Sharma. A team of 20 officials of national repute will be there to officiate in the mega event, which is expected to incur an expenditure of Rs 5 lakh. Like last year, the organizers are making arrangements considering a big crowd of about 20 thousand people at the venue of the day-long dangal. Sharma said, “since the last three years we have been giving this event an international dimension and the outstanding wrestlers from Pakistan have attracted attention of the public and administration as well,” adding, “it (dangal) has generated a wave of love among the people of our neighbouring country bringing people closer to each other and this is something which deserves recognition and appreciation at the highest level”. |
