| Punjab vanquishes J&K by an innings and 64 runs | | CK Naidu U-22 cricket tourney | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 7 Hosts Jammu and Kashmir today suffered a humiliating innings and 64 runs defeat at the hands of Punjab in opening tie of Col. C K Naidu under-22 cricket tournament at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium here. Earlier, resuming their innings from overnight score 40 for two, J&K lost both Mudasir and Ubaid cheaply to pacer Varinder Singh scoring 24 and 17 runs respectively. Thereafter, wickets kept falling at regular intervals leaving J&K struggling at 108 for nine. However, the last wicket partnership between Sohit Khajuria and Zahoor Sofi contributed 40 runs before Varinder took the last scalp thus bundling J&K out at 151 in 39 overs. Two J&K batsmen-- Rohit and Imran had to return fumingly without opening their accounts and the batting line up shattered like a pack of cards. Punjab’s Varinder Singh was the pick of the match. He claimed a rich haul of nine wickets in the second innings for 47 runs in 13.1 overs, including five maiden. However, the whole game moved around two back to back centuries by Sumit and Udhay and later nine wickets haul by Varinder Singh of Punjab changed the whole scene in this four-day game.
