| Madan for introducing physical education at Primary level | | First District Fencing Championship concludes at Samba | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 7 First District Fencing championship held at newly carved out district Samba in a border village Rajpura today concluded with participation of 120 students from 25 schools of the district. This was a part of 10-day Fencing coaching programme organized at Rajpura on 29th of September followed by District Championship on 6th and 7th October. Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma was the chief guest while District Development Commissioner Samba Mr. B.S Jamwal presided over the occasion. President J&K Amateur Fencing Association Mr. Mukerjeet was the guest of honour. Appreciating Mr. Mukerjeet and his whole team for organizing such an encouraging tournament that too in a border and far-flung village, Mr. Sharma said that such efforts are the need of hour to expose hidden talents of the state. He expressed happiness over the extension of sports to rural and border pockets which earlier remained confined to only cities and accessible area. He said that sports has now become an integral part of our academic and professional life as it can do wonders in transforming the life of an individual besides bringing nation on world sports map. He said that it is a matter of pride for the country in general and Jammu and Kashmir in particular that our Fencing champions are playing at national and international level and bringing laurels to their motherland. He also recalled the days when this game was introduced in J&K in 1987 and he was the then MOS Education. He also remained State President Fencing Association and did a lot to promote the game. Suggesting several innovative measures for giving a fillip to sports sector in the state especially in remote and border areas which lack almost all sports facilities, the MP emphasized the need to keep a provision of 10 percent allocation from BADP and other education schemes for sports sector only. “This will really give a new direction to this vital sector in the state,” he asserted. He also stressed on the need to make sports a compulsory subject from primary level. Mr B.S Jamwal, who earlier inaugurated this mega event, said that Jammu and Kashmir is bestowed with abundant sports talent and its sources and if this potential is harnessed properly can make the state a sports hub. He said that sports enthuses students and inculcate in them a sense of responsibility and discipline and can take their lives to a new world of success and prosperity. The DDC emphasized the need of qualitative and quantitative promotion of sports infrastructure in the state and assured all support from his administration to the fencing association. Wishing all success to the organizer and participants of the camp, the DDC exhorted upon the student fraternity to vigorously adopt this game which has vast scope in excelling at national and international level as being an Olympic game it has 30 medals to present to the players. Mr. Jamwal lauded the services of Secretary J&K Amateur fencing Association Mr. Vijay Sharma, District President Samba Mr. Kuldeep Sambyal and other concerned in making this championship a grand success. |
