| Parents urge state govt. to expedite admissions in Engineering Colleges | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 8 Fate of large number of students awaiting admissions in different engineering colleges across the state continue to hang in balance as authorities are yet to complete the admission process despite announcing the result in the month of August 2007. Undue delay caused in completing the admission formalities is also posing a great deal of inconvenience to large number of students and their parents as they are not able to make up their mind whether to wait for the completion of ongoing admission process in the state or to seek admission for their children in some other college outside the state. It may be mentioned that after the declaration of the result on 25 August 2007 the authorities released another list on September 20 as large number of seats fell vacant in different engineering colleges in the first round of counselling. Till then students and their parents have not heard any word from the concerned authorities and are still awaiting their turn. "We are not aware how many seats were filled by the authorities and how many are left after the second round of counselling, a worried parent seeking admission for his son in one of the engineering colleges said. "We fail to understand when everything is computerised why it takes such a long time for govt machinery to complete the admission formalities. Our children are suffering because they are yet to be admitted and classes have already started", another parents of an engineering aspirant said. Parents of these children relaize one thing," we know our children didn't figure in the first list but we are also aware of the fact that more than fifty percent seats are still vacant in private engineering colleges and they stand a fair chance of entering the engineering college on the basis of their merit but there is no forward movement and things are moving at snails pace.If out children will get late admissions they won't be able to catch up with the class work and may lose important lessons, a parent said. Official sources said here today, half of the seats in private engineering colleges are still vacant .Ironically, they cannot admit students as they are awaiting fresh list of students. Another factor which is disturbing students and their parents is the start of classes in these colleges. Parents of one of the students who is still awaiting admission in an engineering college said, my child is very disturbed these days. His friends are already attending classes and he is staying out of the college. He feels bad about it as he missed the first list as he scored one mark less than the cut off point. I cannot say that my son has faired badly he said urging state govt to expedite admission formalities to ensure than academic calendar is not disturbed. |
