| 3 militants killed in encounters | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 8 Police and army claimed to have killed three militants in two separate encounters in Kulgam and Kupwara districts of Kashmir Valley on Monday. Official sources quoting Incharge Superintendent of Police Kulgam told News Agency of Kashmir that two militants were killed in an encounter with police and army at Mahipora Kulgam. He said that police had got specific information regarding the presence of the militants in the village Mahipora last evening. The targeted house in which the militants were hiding was cordoned off leading to a fierce gun battle. Reinforcement of 9 RR and 161 and 5 CRPF were also rushed to the village, the spokesman added. The police parties assisted by the security forces were able to eliminate the two militants, he said adding, the house in which the militants were hiding also suffered damage. As per initial investigations, sources said both the militants belonged to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and were identified as Sartaj Ahmed Shaksaz alias Tabraez and Ashiq Ahmed Padru alias Janbaz. Meanwhile, in another encounter police and 28 RR gunned down one militant in the Ganga bug forest area of the Kupwara district. Official sources quoting SSP Kupwara Vijay Kumar told News Agency of Kashmir that the militant belongs to the LET and has been identified as Abu Usman (Jr). |
