| Swamy files contempt of court petition against DK leader | | | Chennai | Oct 8 Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy has filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court against Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani `for defaming and scandalising' apex court Justice B N Agarwal. The petition would be taken up by the court after October 15, Swamy told reporters here. The outbursts of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Veeramani against Lord Ram were "out of frustration at being defeated by believers with the blessings of Sri Rama" in the Sethu Samudram Canal Project, he said. Veeramani, a few days back, had expressed displeasure over the observations made by the Justice Agarwal while hearing a case related to the recent bandh call in Tamil Nadu. He had appealed to the Chief Justice of Supreme Court not to allow Justice Agarwal to hear cases relating to Rama Sethu. Swamy said the SSCP should be now fully re-considered since most of the data on which the earlier decision to go ahead with the project was based on false premises. The project would cost the nation Rs 1000 crore net loss every year once `correct figures' were used in the calculation, he said. Dr S Badrinarayanan, former director of Geological Survey of India, had in a report on 2003, confirmed that the Rama Sethu was constructed and was not a natural phenomenon. Swamy said he has written a letter to Union Minister of Culture Ambika Soni requesting her to order a proper investigation into the origin of Rama Sethu. |
