Muslim clerics call selling of wife against Islamic law
10/8/2007 9:09:56 PM
Muzaffarnagar |Oct 8
Muslim clerics today declared that selling of wife by husband to another man was against the Shariat law.
The clerics gave this view in the course of a community panchayat on a case in which one Furkan had sold his wife Akbari to a rickshaw-puller for Rs 30,000 on October 6, police said.
Habibur Rehman of Darululoom Deoband, an Islamic seminary declared that the selling of the woman was illegal and against the Shariat law.
Muslim clerics from various other seminaries also held the same view and called for a social boycott of Furkan and his father.
Furkan, however, denied the allegation and said that his wife herself agreed to live with Kallu.
