Late Ch. Wazir Mohd Hakla - A National Level Gujjar personality | | | Nasir Ahmd Bajjar
History has witnessed several types of leaders. But when we think about outstanding personalities, the name of Late Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla of Village Bandi Chechian District Poonch J&K , a very sincere, hardworking and devoted leader who was not only the Gujjar leader but he also strived for the welfare of all communities come to our mind. He played very important role in politics at that time when the people were not very much aware of the politics. He was the person who educated the people of far flung areas about their rights of citizenship and also made them aware about their rights and duties for the nation. Choudhray Wazir Mohammad Hakla, Poonchi worked for the welfare of the Gujjar community throughout the country. Hakla's name does not require any introduction because the people of Poonch in particular and Gujjars of India in general are very well aware about his efforts and dedications for the cause of their community. He had hardly left any action which was held for the betterment of the community anywhere in the country. He was the first personality from District Poonch who participated in the first ever Gujjar Conference at Shimla in Himachal Pradesh when the Government conferred Scheduled Tribe status upon the Gujjars of Himachal Pradesh. While addressing the audiences from all over the country,he demanded that the Scheduled Tribe Status should also be conferred upon the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir. The movement started at that time proved fruitful in the year 1991. Further on 29th October 1975, Hakla alongwith a delegation presented a memorandum to the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and demanded for grant of Scheduled Tribe status for the Gujjars of J&K State. It is matter of great appreciation and proud for all of us that while hailing from a far flung area of Poonch,Mr. Hakla never missed a single conference or function which was being held in connection with the welfare of the nation. Here it proves that the talent and dedication of a person can never remain hidden and the personalities of high quality and creativity can grow up anywhere in any atmosphere. As the bard says; "ZULMATUN KE SAYE MEIN PALTE RAHE ITFAL-E-NOOR PATHRUN KE SHEHAR MEIN HOTI RAHI SHEESHA GARI " Ch.Wazir Mohd Hakla did not restrict his activities to the State only, but he visited different parts of the country and struggled for unity among Gujjars of all religions. What ever is being done to promote Gojri language in our State today,is to large extent the outcome of Ch. Wazir Mohd Hakla's dreams. Through an article published in Nawa-i-Quam in Jammu on 15 July 1957 he demanded the Govt. of India that a regiment of Gujjars of all religions ,Hindus ,Muslims and Sikhs be raised in Indian Army. On 11 June 1965,he presided over the first session of Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Political Sabha in Delhi and delivered a memorable address. The Time of India, Milap and many Hindi & English papers appreciated it. The Times of India wrote:"More than 25000 delegates from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajisthan Utter Pradesh,Delhi,Punjab Himachal Pradesh and J&K are attending the Conference being held at Bhadurpur, New Delhi.Ch. Wazir Mohd Hakla from Kashmir Presided over the said Conference. Mr. Hakla said "not a single Muslim Gujjar in Kashmir has ever supported the pro-Pakistan or Plebiscite Front elements in the State " .Speaking on the problems of the Gujjar Bakerwals of Jammu & Kashmir. On 11.6 1965 the Hindu,Sikh and Muslim Gujjars leaders of India held a great sammelan under the banner of All India Gujjar Mahasabha at Badarpur,New Delhi which was chaired by Ch.Wazir Mohd Hakla Poonchi of J&K State who in his presidential speech had put the demand before the Govt of India to grant ST status to the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir on the basis of poverty and backwardness. He appealed the Hindu and Sikh Gujjar leaders to extend full co-operation to J&K Gujjar Bakerwal to achieve their objective. After this sammelan the Hindu,Muslim and Sikh Gujjar leaders of other States of India extended full support to their movement. Mr. Hakla represented Gujjars of J&K in all meetings and conferences of Gujjars outside the State. He presided over the convention of All India Gujjar Sudhar Sabha at Khetri,Jagadri in Ambala Haryana on March 9, 1968, represented the J&K State in the All India level Gujjar Conference held at Kotla Mubarak Pur Delhi on January 7,1973.On 26 October 1975, he delivered the inaugural address to the All India level Gujjar Kissan Sabha on 26 October ,1975 in Mavlankar Hall ,New Delhi which the then Union Minister of Agriculture,Babu Jagjivan Ram had also attended. In 1975,a joint sammelan of Hindu, Muslim Gujjars of India ,under the chairmanship of Babu Jagjivan Ram was held in Mawlanker Hall in New Delhi. At that time Mr. Ram was Agricultural Minister in the Union Cabinet of Govt of India. The opening speech was delivered by Ch Wazir Mohd Hakla Poonchi himself who in his speech demanded ST status to Gujjars and Bakarwals of J&K State from the Union Govt of India. He had also requested Babu Jagjivan Ram to support the demand of the movement .During his speech Babu Jagjivan Ram assured of his full support. Late Ch Wazir Mohd Hakla national level Gujjar leader devoted his entire life for the educational, social and political awareness of Gujjar of the country. He was not only a leader but was also a historian, scholar who worked for Gojri language and literature throughout his life. Ch.Wazir Mohd Hakla died on 15 August 1977 this nationalistic and patriotic leader did a lot for the people of Poonch, J&K.And this is the only reason that even after a long passage of time i.e. 40 years the people of Poonch still have the same regards and feelings for the devoted leader irrespective of caste, creed and religion. It is very true that a man can only be remembered throughout the life for his good deeds, and services, he rendered to the common man of the society. It is very famous phrase and it has been proved here practically "God helps those who help themselves ".Here we shall not hesitate saying that Ch. Wazir Mohd Hakla implemented this formula among our people and educated them to learn how to help themselves which was an important step towards the right direction of development of the society. Because when we ourselves shall come forward in the field of developments, helps shall come from all the quarters but when our efforts are zero we cannot expect any help from any side. In the year of 1992 the people of Poonch and Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir paid its tributes to the devoted national level Gujjar leader and as such Drungli Nallah Poonch to Bandi chechian road has been named as Choudhary Wazir Mohammad Hakla Road. Government High School Bandichechian has been named as Choudhary Wazir Mohammad Hakla Memorial High School. Choudhary Wazir Mohammad Hakla Multipurpose Hall and Library in Gujjar Hostel Poonch has also been inaugurated in 1992. This kind of gestures clearly show that the people of Poonch have a great affection and regards for their departed leader.Real tribute to Mr. Hakla shall be that if we all should try to make his dreams true.Mr. Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi S/O late Choudhary Wazir Mohammad Hakla, has adopted the path of his father and within quite young age has achieved several goals. He has also taken in hand the job of serving the society as a leader. He is journalist, several articles published in various local and national papers and books are in his credit. He has also received awards in this field. He is energetic social worker and always remains ready to serve the people of District Poonch in particular and the people of country in general. The people of Poonch have great expectations for this budding politician. Within a short span of time, Mr. Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi has developed relationship with various social and political organizations throughout the country and he also visits all the places in connection with attending the conferences and functions in this respect. It is pertinent to mention here that during the present state of affairs, the Gujjars have to play a very important role in national integration. Therefore, the prominent leaders like Mr.Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi should be supported to give maximum chance to serve the nation. On the other hand it is also the duty of these leaders who are leading the nation, that they should work hard for the benefit of the common man. No doubt the dedications and devotions with which Mr.Shamsheer Hakla is working for the betterment of the people of society shall bring good results and we are sure that the dreams which Late Choudhary Wazir Mohammad Hakla had seen for this society, shall definitely come true. It is a bare fact that the things which are taken in hand and done with honest and sincere efforts shall never face failure. There is no limit for rising as a personality.Inspite his son Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi, he had three more sons named Sikander Hayat Tariq, Late Aftab Rana Hakla, Mushtaq Ahmed. Sikander Hayat Tariq has put forth his efforts to fulfill the dreams of his father, Ch Wazir Mohd Hakla. Recently Bhartiya Gurjar Parishad a social organization of the Hindu, Muslim, Sikhs and Jain Gujjars of India unanimously recommended to Prime Minister of India for issuing of Postal stamps in the name of Late Ch.Wazir Mohd Hakla of Poonch (J&K). |
