Fresh list has Minister Hakeem Yaseen, Legislators Yogesh, GH Khan .
A year after stunning the entire state, the infamous Srinagar sex scandal today rocked back with more explosive ramifications and fresh embarrassment for the government as names of a senior minister, two legislators and top officers of the police and some businessmen have surfaced.
As Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court headed by Justices Bashir Ahmed Kirmai and Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain pulled the central probing agency Central Bureau of Investigation for going slow on the case, the names of top minister and other high profile dignitaries tumbled out bringing in fresh bout of embarrassment for the government. The Judged blamed the CBI for not touching the high profile people who had there names appearing in the initial report generated on the basis of the statements of victims.
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Forum and Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, legislators Yogesh Sawhney of Congress and Ghulam Hassan Khan of Peoples Democratic Party; Ashkoor Wani and Sheikh Mehmood (both senior superintendents of police); Niyaz Mehmood, deputy inspector general (DIG) of police; Sheikh Nisar Ahmad and Manzoor Naik.
The division bench in its directive also said the CBI shall conduct speedy and focussed investigations in the cases of Mohammed Yousuf Khan, former chairman of the J&K Bank Ltd., Rajendra Tickoo, the then vigilance commissioner and Zahoor Ahmad Malik, whose names have also appeared in the case diaries of the racket busted in March 2006.
Meanwhile, immediately after this development the Peoples Democratic Party suspended its MLA Ghulam Hassan Khan from the party. Khan was a Minister of State for Social Welfare in Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government. On being contacted, a PDP leader told EARLY TIMES that Khan has been suspended from the party and not expelled. He said, "a final decision shall be taken after trial of the case.
The detailed court directive asked CBI to place all records available regarding the accused high profile officers and ministers before the chief judicial magistrate within six weeks for cognisance of all offences under appropriate provisions of law.
The director general of police (DGP) has been directed to constitute a team of police officers of 'proven integrity' to be headed by a DIG to probe cases of sex trade and drug trafficking in Kashmir.
The DGP has also been directed to provide security to people whose names have appeared in the court order today. The court also desired the rehabilitation of the affected girls who were involved in the racket.
Eighteen people including former ministers Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Raman Matto (Congress), senior IAS officer Iqbal Khanday, DIG BSF K.C. Padhi, Two DSPs of state police and the alleged kingpin of the scandal Sabeena were arrested in connection with the case. They were later released on bail and are facing trial at a Chandigarh court.
Meanwhile, the Court also asked the CBI to identify the "Gora Chitta" bureaucrat who sexploited a girl at his Cheshma Shahi hut.
