Jhiri Mela to commence on Nov 17

District Development Commissioner Jammu Hirdesh Kumar Singh today reviewed mela arrangements made by different departments at a high level meeting held at Jhiri for the smooth conduct of this religious Jhiri Mela to be commenced from November 17.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Tehsildar Jammu Narayan Singh, Executive Engineer R&B D. D. Gorkha and other senior officers of RDD, PHE, PDD, Education, Tourism, Police, Forests and Fire Services were also present.
The DDC asked the engineers of R&B to execute repair and patch work on the adjoining roads leading to Baba Jittoo temple and remove the encroachments from main road to Baba Talab before the commencement of the Mela. He instructed Block Development Officer to ensure repair and renovation work on existing sanitation units for the benefit of yatris. He asked the Mela Officer to arrange tents/shamianas in the temple so that the yatris do not face any inconvenience on account of accommodation.
To ensure regular power supply in and around the temple during mela days, he asked the Power department to install flood lights and illuminate the area of Mela site.
He asked the PHE authorities to arrange safe drinking water for yatris besides repairing the existing hand pumps and provide water connections to the toilets being constructed by the Rural Development Department at Baba Talab. He asked the to make operational existing toilets for the benefit of yatris and PHE and PWD departments to barricade the area. Besides, Irrigation and Flood Control department authorities asked to divert the distributed water into the Talab located at temple to facilitate the yatris for having bath in the sacred Baba Jitto talab.
The DDC directed to ensure sufficient number of buses from MAM stadium to Jhiri via Sua No. 1 in order to facilitate the yatris. He asked the CAPD for opening of a fair price shop with all items like sugar, atta and kerosene oil for the yatris and health authorities to establish two medical centres, one at Jhiri and another at Baba Talab during Mela days. He also asked the different departments to install their departmental stalls during the mela.
The DDC asked the revenue and police authorities that the land of Bawa Jitto and land adjoining to Baba Jittoo temple should not be encroached by any person, if anybody found doing so, stern action will be taken against him. He asked the police department to ensure security arrangements in and around the temple besides keep a vigil on overloading and rash driving will be checked.
He asked the tourism authorities to arrange cultural show programmes during Mela days and construct a platform at identified plow so that the artists could perform cultural activities without any inconvenience. He informed meeting that, Natrang Club will also organize a drama on the life of Baba Jittoo on November 23 & 24 in the premises of temple.
Later,Hirdesh Kumar Singh alongwith other senior officers paid obeisance at the temple and prayed for peace and prosperity of the state and country.
