Srinagar, Dec 17: Taking a cognizance of hardships and difficulties faced by people at Srinagar airport, the state high court has directed the authorities concerned, including ministry of civil aviation and Government of India to take immediate steps for providing necessary facilities to the passengers. A division bench of Justice M H Attar and Justice A M Magrey also directed that whatever steps, required to be taken for providing the facilities to the passengers and ensuring their smooth travel, should be taken forthwith. It directed Union of India through Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, Airport Authority of India (AAI) through its Chairman and Air Commodore, Indian Airports, posted at air force station, Srinagar, to file compliance report before the next date of hearing on December 26. The petition was initiated by Justice Magrey and on December 14, the chief justice had directed its registration as suo moto PIL. In this PIL, the judge has noticed that AAI has prima facie failed to take notice of hardships and difficulties being regularly faced by the people at Srinagar airport. It was also noticed that the authority concerned had failed to take appropriate remedial measures by upgrading the lighting system and installing the required gadgets at Srinagar airport, failing to discharge its public duty. "The UoI through Ministry of Civil Aviation, AAI through its Chairman, Air Commodore, Indian Airports, posted at air force station, Srinagar, and J&K through CS are impleaded as party respondents in the PIL," the court said and issued notices, seeking their response. "List for consideration in the week commencing from December 26, 2016," the court said. |
