Victimised AEs hold protests in Srinagar | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 17: The news report regarding direct appointment of Assistant Engineers in different departments published in this newspaper encouraged aggrieved AEs of R&B Department to stage demos against the authorities. Early Times had highlighted the plight of the AEs appointed in 2009 whose promotion has been halted owing to the direct appointment of AEs by Service Selection Board (SSB). The aggrieved engineers appeared at Lal Chowk on Saturday and staged demonstrations to protest the alleged direct appointment of blue eyed candidates as AEs by way of halting promotions of previously appointed AEs. The protesting engineers claimed that there are 54 posts of AEs vacant in R&B Department and 65 posts stands vacant in PMGSY since 2014. "We were appointed as Junior Engineers (JEs) Civil, state cadre in Public Works R&B department vide government order number 209 PW(R&B) of 2009S dated 17.09.2009. Since three years of service is mandatory for promotion but our promotions reasons better know to the authorities has been put on hold," Niyaz Ahmad a protesting AE said. He said they apprised the government about their issues but their pleas fell flat on deaf ears as no heed was paid to their genuine demand. "The data we have collected from different departments revealed that as many posts of AEs vacant in PMGSY (JKRRDA), PW(R&B) Rural Development Department, and Mughal Road projects. If the department would have considered the vacancies available with the departments we would have been promoted in 2014 as same number of vacancies are available since 2014," added he. He further asserted that PSC have shortlisted the candidates for direct recruitment and the selected candidates will be placed above them in seniority list as they will be directly recruited as AEs. "Most of the them are 1990 born and you cannot believe they were our students in colleges and universities. How can we tolerate that our juniors be appointed directly as AEs while we have been left in the lurch," he said. |
