| Govt in piquant situation | | SEX & SLEAZE | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 9 With protests beginning to rock over the resurfacing of sex scam, the government is one again in a piquant situation on whether to drive out of the system the blamed minister, legislators and officers or wait for the CBI action in follow up to the High Court directions. Immediately after resurfacing of the dirty scam, which had nearly collapsed the government last year, the politics of protests is again about to rock the state. The opponents are now even pitching for resignation of entire government on the moral grounds. In sharp reaction to the fresh revelations made on Monday, the BJP and Shiv Sena today took to streets to protest against the alleged involvement of the minister, legislators and officials of the Congress-led state government in the Kashmir sex scandal. Over 300 activists of the BJP and Sena raised anti-government and anti-CBI slogans in Jammu on Tuesday and burned the effigies of the accused in the scandal -- Minister Hakeem Yaseen, MLAs of Congress and PDP, Yogesh Swahaney and Ghulam Hassan Khan besides former J&K Bank chairman Yousef Khan. For Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad it's a predicament whether to ask the Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen to quit or allow him to decide on his own. Yaseen, who is currently away in Saudi Arabia on Umrah is likely to return by Thursday. If the ministers were asked to quit, the government would gain high moral ground but may lose a coalition partner. If it waits for the accused minister to respond then it stands to ridicule from the allies such as PDP and from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Last year, during earlier investigations, then ministers Raman Mattoo and Ghulam Ahmad Mir were charged in the scandal. Both Mir and Matoo, Congress legislators, had given up their ministerial berths before being arrested. Chief Minister Azad is in New Delhi and he is to take a decision regarding Yaseen in consultation with the allies and his own party high command, sources close to him said. State unit president of BJP Ashok Khajuria has demanded dismissal of a government in which ministers, former ministers and top police officials are involved in a sex scandal. |
