With its credibility severely hit by the High observation that some influential people spared during the probe last year, a high powered eight member team of Central Bureau of Investigation is arriving in Srinagar Wednesday to carry forward the investigations.
Highly placed sources told EARLY TIMES, that the CBI top bossed in New Delhi late this evening named eight officers who be heading to Srinagar tomorrow morning to question the persons named in the new list. The eight member team is being headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police, informed the sources. After questioning in Srinagar, the team will move to Jammu for grilling two police officers named in the list of sex scam accused.
In its directives on a case filed by the investigative agency against the high profile suspects, including Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and two former ministers and sitting legislators, Ghulam Hassan Khan and Yogesh Sawhani, the High Court had on Monday reprimanded the CBI for not parading the accused before the victims for identification.
According to the observers, the credibility of the CBI was hit after the Jammu and Kashmir High Court released the list of the influential people and legislators, who were not investigated by the agency. Sources said that upon their arrival in Srinagar, the CBI team will have a meeting with the Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda about the formation of a joint investigation team. The DGP has already been asked by the High Court to depute a team of officers of high integrity headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police to assist the CBI in investigation.
After getting assistance from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the sources said, the CBI team will set up a camp office each in Srinagar and Jammu where the probing officials will meet the accused for questioning. It is learnt that on Thursday, the CBI team will send notices to all those people named in the fresh list.
When asked, senior police officer in Srinagar told EARLY TIMES, that initially no arrests shall be made only questioning will be held. "However, those evading questionings and identification parade may be chased for arrests but only after offering them due opportunity to present before the agency and get identified by the victims". Meanwhile, the rumour mills are churning about the names of the "Gora Chitta officer" who has sex with a girl at his Cheshma Shahi hut and one "Vijay" named in the Court. Sources indicated that the "Gora Chitta" bureaucrat have since retired while the person named as "Vijay" was reportedly close associate of a minister.
