| Governor hosts Iftaar party | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 10 Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today hosted an Iftaar party, which was attended by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, several ministers, legislators and top officials. The unique feature of the event, which the Governor has been holding every year since 2003, was participation of the representatives of non-gazetted Muslim employees of Civil Secretariat and Raj Bhavan besides Muslim personnel from the Army, the Police and the Security Forces. Greeting the people, General Sinha said that peaceful co-existence and amity between various communities has been the hallmark of Kashmir’s composite culture, which is an inspiration for rest of the world. He said the holy month of Ramadan gives us an opportunity to further strengthen these bonds. At the time of Iftaar, the participants offered prayers in a separate enclosure. They broke their fast with dates and traditional sweetened chilled milk. The solemn function was marked by partaking in the Iftaar feast by all those present. The Governor met the invitees’ one by one and greeted them on the auspicious month. Among others present were Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Aftab Alam besides Deputy Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Road and Buildings Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Finance and Planning Tariq Hameed Karra, Leader of Opposition Mr. A. R. Rather, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Sharma, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Financial Commissioner Home Mr. B. R. Kundal, Principal Secretary to Governor Dr. Arun Kumar and top ranking civil, army and police administration. |
