| Human Rights seminar held | | | Early Times Reporter

A Human Rights Seminar was conducted under the aegis of White Knight Corps, in Sangha Auditorium at Akhnoor, today. The seminar was inaugurated by Lieutenant General TK Sapru, YSM, General Officer Commanding, 16 Corps.
Balraj, Sujat Bukhari, Happymon Jacob, Saleem Pandit and KM Chenoy were among the eminent speakers participated in Human Rights Seminar.
Legal issue and implications related to Human Rights. The role of media, Laws of Armed Conflict and Human Rights as applicable in insurgency area, Role of media in curbing terrorism and during Army conflict and Low Intensity Conflict Operation were some of the issues discussed during the seminar. The seminar also gave specific direction to the people friendly operations by discussing the issues not only from the security force’s perspective, but also from the perspective of the local population and the media. The seminar was concluded with an open house panel discussion.
The seminar aimed to principally address two important themes, Firstly, the imperative need to uphold the customs and norms of Human Rights in a democratic society and the legislative aspects controlling the deployment of the armed forces. Secondly the need for the adherence to Human Rights while the armed forces are operating in counter insurgency situations as prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.
The seminar is an attempt by the Army to communicate amongst its rank and file, the continued commitment of the Armed Forces towards the recognition and upholding of Human values and dignity. |
