| JK artists return from Eastern Siberia tour | | Participated first time in International Festival of Music | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 10 A 6-member member team from J&K State today returned after participating in the International Music Festival “Sounds of Eurasian Instrument,” organized by the East Siberian State Academy of Culture and Arts (ESSACA) in Ulan, Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia in the the Russian Federation (Eastern Siberia) under the auspices of Himalayan Research and Cultural Foundation (HRCF), in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The members of the team who participated in the festival include Prof. K. Warikoo, Secretary General, Himalayan Research and Cultural Foundation HRCF (team leader), Savita Bakshi (Sitar), Anil Kaul (Tabla), Raj Kumar (Santoor), Rakesh Anand (Flute) and Ravinder Kaul (Art, Theatre and Music Critic). Revealing the details of their participation in the festival, Ravinder Kaul, Secretary of the J&K Chapter of HRCF said at a press conference here today that the idea of the participation of a team of instrumental musicians in the International Festival in Ulan Ude was conceived in a meeting between Prof. K. Warikoo, Secretary General of HRCF with Prof. Victor Kitov of the ESSACA in Andong in South Korea in the year 2005. The members of the visiting team also narrated their wonderful experiences during the Festival. A short film produced by HRCF highlighting all the special features of the Festival was screened on the occasion. He further said that the Festival in Ulan Ude was in the nature of a performance cum academic exercise. While all the four artistes performed in the Festival with their respective musical instruments, they also presented research papers relating to their musical instruments. While their performances were highly appreciated by the connoisseurs of music, their research papers were also appreciated by the experts of music. The Jammu musicians enthralled the listeners in Ulan Ude, who were hearing the sound of Indian musical instruments for the first time, as no musician from India, has ever visited the Republic of Buryatia in the past. A documentary titled “Shrines and Pilgrimages of Kashmir”, was screened in the festival. The cultural exchange between the artistes and a combined performance of all the artistes on the last day marked the grand finale of the Festival. |
