| Declaring J&K as herbal state sought | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 10 State unit of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Growers Association of India (AMPGAI) has demanded that J&K should be declared as a Herbal state. The demand was raised during an awareness programme held by the association at Doda, today. The programme was sponsored by the National Horticulture Board (NHB). On the occasion, the association passed a resolution seeking herbal state status for J&K on the pattern of Uttrakhand and Chattisgarh. The resolution mentioned that J&K is rich in Aromatic and Medicinal plants and thus deserve the status. While addressing the farmers, Astt Director of agricultural ministry, J.B.Singh stressed over the importance of new divisive strategies of diversification of the crops from rice, maize and wheat to Aromatic and Medicinal plants saying that this will provide sustainable employment to the farmers. Highlighting the benefits of the scheme, Singh said that the board provides 20 percent subsidy to the growers for growing horticulture and aromatic plants and further apprised them about the schemes of NHB from which the farmers of other states are taking full benefits. Singh further informed farmers that crores of rupees in the shape of subsidy was released to the farmers of other states who grow horticulture commodities. Those who also spoke on the occasion were national president of the organization and former minister Th.Randhir Singh, J&K Growers President of Aromatics and Medicinal Plants Sham Singh and renewed grower and ecologist of J&K state Kesri Shashi Kumar. |
