| It doesn't ly with BJP to sermonise Congress | | EDITORIAL | |
When BJP asks Congress to severe its ties with the PDP in J&K, in view of the later toing the agenda of Pakistan and secessionists and thus its policies being against the interest of the nation, by implication BJP gives certificate to the Congress of being a nationalist party opposed to J&K's secession from India. Although Congress never needs certificate from the BJP or any other party of its patriotic and nationalist credentials, yet BJP's concern for the credibility of Congress as a nationalist party has an element of amusement in it. Though Congress and BJP as parties have sharp differences in their policies and perceptions of vital national issues, the two are equally committed to the fact of Jammu and Kashmir being integral part of India and that the state's accession to India is irrevocable. Both believe that any solution of discontent among and alienation of section of people has to be found within the frame work of Indian constitution. The Independence Day speech of senior Congress leader and Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma as well as that of State Congress President, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, on the same occasion, make amply clear the committed stand of Congress about J&K's constitutional status as part and parcel of India. Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma in his address even had a dig on the pscedo protagonists of human rights that even the personnel in the security forces two have their rights and that the violation of human rights of these defenders of country's frontiers who make sacrifices to protect the life, property and human rights of common citizens, should be as much a matter of concern as the violation of human rights of others. As far BJP's advise to the Congress to snap ties with PDP for reason mentioned above, need BJP be reminded that they too at the national level forged ties with National Conference, the latter being in the BJP led NDA, having Omar Farooq as MoS in Vajpayee government, despite the NC having seperatist agenda and overtones "it will be also pertinent to mention here that it was the BJP led NDA government in the central whose intelligence agencies propped Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as on alternative leader to Dr. Farooq Abdhula. After NC had severed its ties with the BJP in the center and Omer had left the NDA government, the BJP had secretly started patronizing Mufti Sayeed and his PDP to replace the NC as a ruling dispensation in J&K. But for BJP led NDA government's tacit support to Mufti and projecting him as the future leader of Kashmir, discarding Farooq Abdhula, Mufti would never have come to power in J&K. Before advising the Congress to snap ties BJP must publicly repent for their patronage and tactic support by the NDA government, including financial help for the PDP to strengthen the party in the state, as replacement to National Conference as well as to contain the Congress, which always has some hold in Kashmir Valley, while being the main political force in Jammu region. It is for the Congress to decide as to when severe its ties with the PDP, after it is convinced that the separatist and secessionist overtures of PDP are proving as a liability.
