| Khajuria flays coalition | | White paper on development schemes sought | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 11 The state BJP Chief Ashok Khajuria has demanded white paper containing details of various schemes under the Rural Development and the amount spent by the concerned authorities in the border distircts of Rajouri and Poonch. Addressing a press conference after conducting three day extensive tour here today , State BJP chief said the issuance of white paper alone can establish as to which authorities and which agencies have played foul for personal gains and done nothing for the development of these areas. He said it is regrettable that these areas lack civic amenities like roads, health-care facilities, regular power supply and safe drinking water even after 60 years of independence. He said there exists close nexus between politicians and bureaucracy which is responsible for the backwardness of the people of these areas. It’s no wonder then that the people of these areas, Hindus and Muslims included, are living in extreme backwardness despite the fact that most of the people of these areas have consistently voted for Kashmir-based parties. The state of civic amenities, in fact, is in a shambles, primarily because the local leaders are interfering in the day-to-day matters with a view to earning easy money. The plight of the victims of the 2005 unprecedented earthquake in the area continues to be pathetic, Khajuria said. The state government which talks of healing touch and people-centric government have practically abandoned these victims of the natural calamity. They have not been paid proper compensation. Lauching a scathing attack on the Congress-led government, Khajuria said the present dispensation in power is discriminating between one section and the other relating to appointments. Just one example would establish how unfair the state government is to the areas which it considers inconvenient. Recently, the police department made recruitments, but only from village Sabzian (Poonch), overlooking the claims of the eligible youth (all Muslims) belonging to the adjoining villages. This should expose the discriminatory policies of the state government and establish that the authorities are resorting to the practice of pick and choose |
