| ‘Cultural invasion a blot on Kashir Channel’ | | Fails in its objectives: Magotra, Rahi allege | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 12 Strongly condemning the cultural invasion unleashed on Dogras and Gujjars- the non Kashmiri speaking communities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Dogri Sanstha, Jammu and Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation have alleged that Kashir Channel of Doordarshan is no way the representative channel of all communities and tribes of the state. This was stated by Prof. Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha and Dr. Javed Rahi National Secretary of Tribal Foundation, while addressing pressmen here today. ‘Saying that ‘Kashir Channel’ was in no way the representative channel of all communities and tribes of J&K state’, they urged upon the Prime Minster and the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to immediately stop this cultural aggression against Dogras and Gujjars unleashed through DD Kashmir. “Kashir Channel has not only failed in meeting the aspirations and expectations of the people of Jammu region as well as the Tribals residing in border belts of Kashmir Valley, it has also failed in its much publicized aim of countering the false and malicious propaganda of the Channels from across the International borders, Magotra added. Astonished over giving meager two percent each representation to Dogri and Gojri languages in its 24x7 telecast of DD Kashmir Channel, Magotra said that it was humiliating that even this two per cent representation is not being given to two vast spoken languages. Javid Rahi said since 95% population across the LoC and International border is not understanding Kashmiri language hence the programs telecast by Kashir Channel have absolutely no impact on masses on either side of the border as the pre--dominant languages of these areas are Gojri, Dogri, Punjabi. Saying that some agencies were trying to thrust alien culture upon us, Rahi alleged that it was a conspiracy and cultural monopoly against the Gujjars is intolerable adding ‘how do the authorities perceive to integrate these communities in the mainstream by adopting this policy of insulting their culture and giving their languages mere two percent reservation in Kashir Channel, whereas they jointly form the majority in the state. They said that the channel launched in 1999, with dual objectives to promote and propagate culture and traditions of the inhabitants of the state and to counter the misinformation campaign from across the border, has totally failed in its objectives. |
