| Arun shares trade secrets with young footballers | | | Sanjeev Sharma Jammu | Oct 12 International soccer player from the city of temples-- Arun Malhotra shared trade secrets with young footballers undergoing training at the day-boarding scheme of Sports Authority of India at Mini-Stadium Parade here. The initiative to bring budding players face-to-face with the successful footballer was taken by the SAI football coach, Mohinder Verma. Before sharing the trade secrets with the players on different aspects of the game including fitness and diet, Arun also did a little jugglery with the ball playing a game with these trainees, which, however, his side lost by one goal. Curiosity to open their heart with someone who has practical knowledge of the subject, these upcoming footballers hurled a barrage of queries on Arun. Their questions mostly pertained to injuries and their remedies, diet for required fitness and channel to reach out to the top of Indian football. “Every time I come to Jammu, I feel that I should talk to the youngsters, who are unaware of several things happening in the Indian football. Finally, an opportunity came my way, which I utilized fully by spending a couple of hours with the budding talent of the city,” said Arun. He expressed satisfaction over the enthusiasm shown by the boys on the field. However, Afro-Asian Games silver medalist a member of East Bengal Club, Arun was dissatisfied by two hours daily practice of these youngsters. “By practicing two hours a day one cannot become an international star but can only represent the state in national events, which is a common practice in J&K,” said Arun while expressing his concern. The football has started generating interest among north Indians as well. “People have started realizing that football is also a lucrative game, but only at the highest level. So there is a need among aspiring footballers to shed the barrier of thinking of representing state in the national level tournaments. Start aiming higher, because dreams come true only when you start dreaming,” said Arun to a gathering of nearly 50 boys in their twenties. |
