BDOs to lodge FIR against total defaulter loanees
8/19/2006 11:21:00 PM

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 19 - Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Bhat has stressed upon the bankers and BDOs to chalk out joint strategies for achievement of targets under Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) for percolation of benefits to below poverty line families of district Udhampur with a particular focus on hitherto neglected hilly areas.
The ADDC was speaking at a meeting of bankers and Block Development Officers convened to review the progress achieved under SGSY in sponsoring and financing income generating units to poor families of the district here today.
The Chief Manger Lead Bank Udhampur Mr Y. K Upadhyaha, DDM NABARD, Mr Rattan Lal Assistant Project Director, DRDA, AGM J&K Bank were also present in the meeting.
The meeting unanimously decided to organize awareness camps at Gool, Mahore, Arnas, Dudu Basantgarh and Latti for educating the people about the scheme so that BPL families of these areas may come forward to take benefits and substantiate their income after establishing their income generating units.
While reviewing the last year’s achievement, it was informed that in some areas, the beneficiaries have availed the loan facility and have not set up their units. Recovery of such loan cases is negligible. For effective recovery in such cases, it was decided in the meeting that the Block Development Officers under the provisions contained in Reserve Bank of India regulation may lodge an FIR against such erring loanees forthwith.
This year, a target of sponsoring 827 SGSY units has been kept with a subsidy component of Rs.70.92 lakh, the meeting was apprised. The meeting was further informed that ending July, this year, 144 units have been established in the district and subsidy worth over Rs.16.41 lakh released in their favour.
The Chief Manger Lead Bank assured the meeting that banks would extend full support in financing SGSY cases according to the target fixed by the DRDA as during the last year over 90 percent achievement has been registered in SGSY sponsored cases in Udhampur district.
DDM, NABARD said that recovery of loans in those areas where NGOs are running Self Help Groups was very good and the problems arise in those hilly areas where individual financing has been done which need some remedial measures for effecting the recovery of loan cases.
