| Restoration of 'internal autonomy' only solution: Abdullah | | | Srinagar, Aug. 19 : The restoration of "internal autonomy" was the only solution to Kashmir issue, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said today.
"India does not accept the possibility of an independent Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has endorsed the stand of New Delhi. In view of this agreement between the two countries, restoration of internal autonomy is the only solution to Kashmir issue," the National Conference patron said at a gathering at Kulgam in Anantnag district.
He said putting of the dialogue process between India and Pakistan "subservient to political considerations" was an "attempt to keep the Kashmir issue lingering."
In an apparent reference to rival People's Democratic Party's demand for "self-rule" in the state, Abdullah said "some people are raising slogans aimed at creating confusion among the masses although their demands supported the National Conference stand for greater autonomy."
"These people who were at the forefront of eroding the special status of the state are raising the slogans to gain power and for personal interests," he alleged.
Referring to the Prime Minister's Working Groups, Abdullah said whatever the job they have been assigned needs to be expedited. "The real issue is of involving the people of Kashmir in the dialogue process, which requires sincerity."
He also welcomed the reports about militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen expressing readiness for talks with the Centre.
Abdullah said as part of confidence building measures, the scope of travel across the Line of Control should be widened to include those not from divided families.
