| CBI unearths appointment scam in LIC | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 13 Central Bureau of Investigation/ ACB unearthed a scam of appointment in the LIC Branch Kathua and registered a case against the then Branch Manager Naresh Pal Sharma and Baru Ram Bhagat Higher Grade Assistant LIC Branch Kathua u/s 120-B r/w section 420, 467, 468, 471 and 477-A RPC and 5(2) r/w 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act 2006 BK. According to the FIR, on a reliable source CBI/ACB started investigation and found that in the month of July 2005 when Naresh Pal Sharma Branch Manager LIC Kathua in connivance with Baru Ram Bhagat Higher Grade Assistant, managed educational certificates of various persons and issued appointment orders in the name of those persons appointing them as temporary assistants and sub-staff for 89 days without receiving any application forms and also without conducting interview of the candidates. Their presence was falsely marked in the attendance register by Baru Ram Baghat and he also prepared the payment vouchers, Naresh Pal Sharma dishonestly and fraudulently verified their presence and also passed these payments vouchers. Accordingly the payment was released in the name of those persons. According to the FIR, as a matter of fact, these persons were never appointed and did not work in the Kathua Branch of LIC during the said period and as such they also did not receive the payments while as these 22 persons have been shown to have received Rs. 5.25 lakhs as salary amount disbursed by the accused persons in conspiracy and thereby caused wrongful loss to LIC and wrongful gain to themselves. These fact disclosed prima-facie commission of offence mentioned above and investigation is going on. JNF |
