| Bowling is our strength, says J&K team captain Rupali | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 13 An all-rounder and experienced skipper of Jammu and Kashmir women’s cricket team, Rupali Slathia is confident enough to make a winning start against Himachal Pradesh in the North Zone senior women’s cricket tournament beginning from October 16 in Himachal. The J&K will be playing two games against Himachal, a two-day match, followed by the one-dayer on October 18 at the same venue. Then the team will return to state for their second match against Delhi at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar on October 21. “We have got a good combination of bowling and batting this time, but my team’s strength remains in bowling because there are at least six bowlers, including five medium pacers, playing in the first game,” said confident Rupali. A medium pacer alrounder, who bat at one-down position, Rupali said that J&K has already established a winning record against Himachal beating latter at Jammu last year. Giving more details before team’s departure for Himachal this morning, Rupali said, “although we got little time to play together (Kashmir and Jammu girls), yet we have developed good understanding during the three-day combined nets at MA Stadium.” A diploma holder in sports (cricket) from National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala, Rupali, has already captained the senior women’s team thrice in national level competitions. A twice India camper, Rupali has also represented the North Zone in the Rani Jansi national cricket tournament three times. The 16-member team that left today for the venue bye bus include Rupali Slathia (captain), Muzammal (vice-captain), Abida, Payal Chowdhary, Qurrat, Meenu Slathia, Hinan, Ankita, Syma, Jyoti Bala, Zafra, Madhu Sharma, Ravinder Kour, Salika Sharma (wicket-keeper), Kaunsar (wicket-keeper) and Jaswinder Kour. |
