| AWWA celebrates its 41st raising day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER

Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) is celebrating its 41st Raising Day, 23 Aug 2006, as AWWA week falling between 21 28 Aug 2006 in Nothern Command zone, organizing various activities for the members, says a release from PIB ( Defence Wing).
At Udhampur, celebrations of AWWA week include spot essay and drawing competition for children of different age groups. Best five entries and two consolation prizes, in each group will be suitably rewarded. Magic shows by famous magician RK Pant from Kolkata, special welfare meets at unit level which would include games and launch for the ladies. Entertainment has been scheduled at Dhruva Auditorium for all ranks, ladies & children of the garrison. Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) has been launched for generating employment and empowering people living in Rural Areas which include ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their dependents. This scheme is being implemented through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). KVIC has joined hands with AWWA as one of the mother bodies for implementing the scheme. As a sequel to this an exhibition by KVIC, with the aim of selling Kahdi products and making ex- servicemen, Veer Naris, widows and dependents aware of the facilities and assistance available under REGP, is also being organized during the week the release added.
