| Hurriyat – divided house | | War of words continues between secessionist factions | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 13 The war of words between rival factions of the secessionist Hurriyat Conference continued today with the so-called moderates describing hardline fundamental leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani as publicity hungry. "Syed Ali Shah Geelani is a publicity hungry man and his need to stay in the news forces him to formulate programmes which give justification to government to put him under house arrest", a spokesman of the moderate faction led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said in a statement. A spokesman of Geelani had claimed yesterday that the hardline leader had been put under house arrest to prevent him from addressing a Friday gathering at Baramulla. However, Geelani later went to Baramulla and offered prayers there. Geelani branded Mirwaiz as an agent of the centre after the latter announced that his Awami Action Committee would organise Eid prayers at the Eidgah. The hardliners had already announced a similar programme but withdrew it later saying the moderates were acting at the behest of government to sabotage their programme. The spokesman of the moderates said the urge of Geelani to stay in the news is evident from the efforts he is making to address the gathering at Hazratbal on Eid despite the fact that government has allowed no separatist leader to do so there for the past several years now.
