| Sonia Gandhi hints at cabinet reshuffle | | | New Delhi | Oct 13 UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today indicated the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle soon, saying more opportunities will be given to young MPs in the government. Talking at the 'Hindustan Times Leadership summit' here on Friday she said she is absolutely determined that after the exercise in the party, more opportunities will be given to younger people in the exercise in the government. "I hope that it will be possible quite soon," she added. Earlier, she rejected the idea of early elections. She said Congress does not want confrontation with the Left, wants to understand their position on the nuclear deal. "Confrontation is not coalition dharma," she said. Sonia also expressed satisfaction over the way the Manmohan Singh government is functioning. "I am satisfied with the way government is functioning; it has done anything wrong as such ", she said. Applauding the leadership of the PM, she said that he is one of the most committed politicians in the country. However, she added that the government might have done better in some areas. On the choice of Manmohan Singh as prime minister she said, "He was the only choice at that time. I am absolutely satisfied with the three-and-half years of his tenure". When questioned about the presidential campaign Sonia Gandhi says she and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh never thought of changing the candidate for Presidential elections, despite "knowing that the Opposition would go to any extent". On politics as a whole, she remarked that it is not as bad as it seems and said she would encourage youth of this country to join politics. On the UPA government's fate, she said that it is her firm belief that it will complete its full tenure. On leaving the PM's post during the time of government formation, she said it was a right decision to make and she is happy that it paid off. On the women reservation issue, she said the government can do much better and that a great deal of work has to be done still. |
