A magnificent 104-ball century by Chetan Singh Chib today guided Rehari Cricket Club (RCC) to a five-run victory over fighting Kathua Blues Cricket Club in the Satish Sharma memorial under-19 cricket tournament being played at Parade ground here.
Although Kathua Blues made good team effort yet their tale-enders could not control their nerves and gave away wickets reaching close to their target.
Earlier, Kathua Blues won the toss and asked RCC to bat first. Kathua Blues justified their decision by taking two quick wickets with just six runs on the board. But the third wicket partnership of 61 runs helped RCC build up a competitive score bringing the total to 199 runs in 33.5 overs of the 35 overs match.
It was Chetan who kept the one end intact adding runs on a steady pace and completed his century in 104 balls hitting two sixes and 12 boundaries. Second highest 46 runs come from extras. Jatin and Utkersh contributed 12 runs each. From Kathua Blues, Nitin Mehra and Paras Sharma took four wickets each.
Batting second, Kathua Blues lost their first wicket at five runs but the second wicket partnership yielded 60 more runs bringing the score to 65 for two. But the fall of five wickets within a gap of 23 runs caused KBCC defeat when whole side bowled out for 194 in 31.2 overs.
Aditya Pratap was highest scorer with 41 runs including four boundaries while Ranjeeb (28), Divya Partap (24), Sandeep Singh (26) and Paras Sharma (13) were other main scorers. Shajad Ali, Nitish and Chetan shared two wickets each for Rehari Club while Amit and V Singh Chib took one each.
Chetan Singh Chib was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant century and two wickets haul for the winners.
Today’s semi-final was officiated by Brij Mohan and Santa Singh while Rajeev Pakhetra was scorer.
Kavaljeet Singh, senior Ranji Tropy player from Jammu and Kashmir was special invitee in today’s match. He gave away man of the match trophy to Chetan Singh Chib.
