| Kamal beat Jaideep to retain billiards title | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 14 After losing to Kuldeep Sharma the snooker final yesterday, Kamal Rohmetra today managed to retain the senior billiards title beating Jaideep Manocha 622-530 in the final this afternoon. Except for a 41-point highest break from Kamal, there was hardly anything interesting in this match. It was a smooth sail for Kamal to the victory over the same opponent he had defeated last year in the district championship. Earlier, in senior snooker final, Kuldeep defeated Kamal Rohmetra 4-2. However, in junior group, Nikhil Kapahi made it a double title win. In snooker final Nikhil beat Ishuk Choudhary and later defeated Ishan Choudhary to win the billiards title. In the prize distribution function, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey was chief guest while former Secretary State Sports Council and Conservator of Forest, Manoj Pant was guest of honour. In his address to the participants, the chief guest said, “the sense of victory really gives one additional element of impetus which helps in development of overall personality of a child.” The Divisional Commissioner maintained that despite limited facilities available to them in the state, the players are doing well in different games. He wished the winners and runners-up a bright future and requested the Association to spread the game in other parts of the game. Earlier, president of the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association, Siddharth Sharma welcomed the chief guest and gave a brief note of the association activities. On the occasion, the Association also presented a special prize to the former general secretary of the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association, Sanjeev Gupta. Meanwhile, according to the general secretary of the Association, Sheetal Gandotra the state championship shall start from next week. |
