Governor, Lt. General (Retd) S.K. Sinha today celebrated Id-ul-Fitar with jawans and officers of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry at their Regimantal Centre near here and described it like home coming as he had been celebrating this auspicious occasion in any army atmosphere during his military career spanning 40 years.
‘I extend my heartiest greetings to you all and your families and pray for your prosperity’, the Governor said while extending his Id greetings to a big congregation of jawans and their children.
He said he was overwhelmed to see the spirit of unity and amity between various communities, adding that this is in consonance with our great ethos, which has been aptly reflected in the great poetic verse ‘Mazhab Nahi Sikhata Aapas Mein Bair Rakhna…’
Making a mention of heroic odyssey of JAKLI, the Governor said that it has always remained in the forefront and has still to scale new heights. He referred to the MMG complex within the Centre and said that placement of Masjid, Mandir and Gurdwara in the same vicinity highlights the glorious ethos of Kashmir’s pluralistic character, which is popularly known as Kashmiriyat.
Earlier in a message, the Governor said that Id-ul-Fitar marks the culmination of the pious month of Ramadan which highlights the values of patience, self-restraint, tolerance and austerity. The holy month, he said, also improves the quality of mind, promotes feeling of compassion and brotherhood besides respect for others and reinforces faith in the benevolence and mercy of the Almighty.
General Sinha also paid obeisance at the MMG complex.
Commandant of JAKLI Centre, Brigadier Virendra Singh also addressed the jawans and extended them Id greetings. He welcomed the Governor in the JAKLI Centre to celebrate the Id festival amid jawans and officers.
The Governor met the jawans and their children, attired in traditional dresses, and exchanged pleasantries with them on this great festival. He joined them in high tea.
