| Few doctors from reserved category serve Parliamentarians | | | New Delhi | Oct 14 Barely 22 per cent of doctors, catering to Parliamentarians, belong to the reserved category, including only two in the super-speciality field. According to a reply to a Right To Information (RTI) application by the Central Government Health Services, as many as 49 doctors had been posted in VIP areas, including Parliament House, Parliament Annexe, Constitution House, North and South Avenue and V P House. "This is shocking that these politicians, who have been demanding reservation in super-speciality stream of medical education, have never stressed on this at their homes," Dev Ashish Bhattacharya, the RTI activist, who had moved the application, said. He clarified his application was not against any caste or tribe but was only to show the difference between what the politicians preach and what they practise. According to the reply, 49 doctors had been posted in VIP areas catering to the MPs and ministers out of which nine were from Schedule Caste (ST) and one each from Schedule Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC). As many as 15 doctors of the 49 were those who had completed their Masters in Doctorate (MD) or Masters in Surgery (MS) and the number in reserved category was only two. The RTI application had also sought the names of panel of doctors in CGHS for President and Prime Minister of the country to which the reply was that "no panel" was attached to the VVIP from the Central Government Health Services. |
