| Prakash takes over AF Station Command | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 15 Group Captain V Prakash, Vir Chakra is the new Station Commander of Air Force Station Jammu. He has taken over the command of the Air Force Station Jammu today after a ceremonial parade from Group Captain JS Kler VM who is promoted as an Air Commodore and posted out to Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. Group Captain V Prakash was commissioned in to the Air Force on 28 May 1983 as a helicopter pilot. During his long and distinguished service over 24 years, he has held a variety of Staff and Instructional appointments. He has the distinction of having over 5000 flying hours and flown on Chetak, Cheetah, MI-8 and MI-17 helicopters. Group Captain V Prakash commanded 128 Helicopter Unit at Mohanbari in Assam sector and held staff appointment as Ops II B at Headquarters Eastern Air Command, Shillong and Joint Director Operations (Helicopter) at Air Headquarters. He took part in Operation Falcon, Rakshak and Rhino and actively participated in Operation Pawan during IPKF operations in Sri Lanka, for which he was decorated with Vir Chakra by the President of India. Group Captain V Prakash is a graduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and had served as a member of UN Peace Keeping Mission to Congo in 2005. Group Captain V Prakash is a second generation serving officer and hails from a military background. His father and brother are both retired Army officers and his sister is a commissioned officer of the Indian Army. He got married to Anupama in 1984 and they have two daughters Kirti and Shruti. Mrs Anupama Prakash is an active member of Air Force Wives Welfare Association. |
