Over 20,000 devotees pay obeisance at Merhada Mata

Keeping in view the most religious importance and sanctity of Merhada Mata situated on a hillock in between block Ghordi and Chenani about 15 kms away from both sides in Ramnagar tehsil of the Udhampur district, over 20,000 devotees of Merhada Mata visited the holy shrine on the occasion of 3rd Navratra when the holy Akhand Jyoti of Merhada Mata which was lit at village Ghordi on the occasion of Ist Navratra was taken to holy shrine in a colorful procession followed by thousands of devotees chanting bhajan and kirtan.
The Merhada Mata Management Committee had made adequate arrangements of security, drinking water and comfortable stay with active cooperation by the police and Public Health Engineering department enroute.
Various social organizations duly headed by Bushan, Mohan, Ganesh and others at newly constructed temple Ganpati, Bishan Dutt, Kewal Kharka at Galua, Ajay Kumar and others (All teachers) and PHE department also at Galua and Merhada Mata Management Committee at Merhada Mata holu shrine had arranged free langers for the facility of visiting devotees.
The main attraction was the bhajan and kirtan by a group of kirtan mandli from Udhampur and large group of local ladies singing local bhajans based on the religious importance of Merhada Mata throughout the day.
This religious spot which is also a very good tourist spot is gaining popularity day by day and the yatra has crossed all previous record this year by paying obeisance by the devotees to a greater extent as during first four Navratras over 30,000 devotees had already visited the holy shrine and a Akhand Jyoti of Merhada Mata which was lit at village Barmeen on the occasion of Ist Navratra is yet to take place and will be taken to the Merhada Mata shrine on 18th October, 2007 early in the morning in a colorful procession also followed by thousands of devotees chanting bhajan and kirtan.
The devotees have demanded from the government for providing adequate arrangements of electricity at Ganpati, Galua and the holy site of Merhada Mata in future, as the facility of electric power is the most urgent need of the devotees who often face lot of difficulties especially during Navratra days.
